Report: patients harmed by sub-standard cross-border clinics treated back in Birgunj

A news feature reported on patients from Nepal's southern border areas who travelled across the border for cheaper surgery, only to be harmed by procedures carried out at clinics that did not meet basic standards.
In one case cited, a woman was returned home after an abdominal operation and later found to have a bowel injury rather than the uterine surgery she had been told was done; she was eventually treated over several months at hospitals in Birgunj, including by Prabhu Hospital director and surgeon Dr. Manoj Kumar Gupta.
Doctors quoted in the report said that consulting a Nepali hospital first is now generally safer than crossing the border, as local diagnostic services and surgical care have improved.
